Studies on Propagation Method Using Tuberous Cutting in the Sweet Potato

Abstract
This study was made to clarify the possibility of propagation using tuberous cutting instead of vine cutting in sweet potato growing.
The results were summarized as follows;
1. The near parts to vine of tuberous cuttings produced more sprouts than the parts near to root pole while the producing roots was riched in later parts.
2. The total number of sprouts in tuberous cuttings was richer than the sprouts produced in tuber planted. And though the growth of sprouts in tuberous cuttings was inferior to that in tubers at early growing stage, it became superior at late stage.
3. The vine growth of tuberous cuttings was more vigorous than that of vine cuttings, while the tuber formation of vine cuttings was superior to that of tuberous cuttings.
4. The growing period of sweet potato using the tuberous cuttings for propagation could be shortened about 20 to 30 days than usual growing method using vine cuttings.
